SafeSun is a personal ultraviolet light (UV) meter. It measures the "skin burning intensity" of sun's UV (in UV Index units) and lets you know how much UV you've absorbed throughout the day.
It's not enough to measure UV in a general sense to determine the overall skin burning intensity of sunlight. The human skin has different sensitivity to various types of UV (UVA, UVB, UVC). This phenomenon is described by a world-wide accepted standard the Erythemal Response Spectrum. SafeSun is the only consumer-targeted device based on this standard. Until now, the only way to precisely measure "skin burning intensity" of UV light was with expensive and cumbersome scientific instruments Features - Both Models:

Your individual sensitivity to sun burning is represented by a Skin Sensitivity Value.

Sun Protection Factor (SPF) describes the increased
allowable time of sun exposure before your particular skin type burns.
An SPF value is assigned by manufacturers of sun protecting cosmetics
for items such as sunscreens, creams, lipsticks, cosmetic milks, lotions,
etc. For example, SPF4 means that you can expose yourself to the sun four
times longer without burning, than without using any SPF.
SafeSun Classic has SSV and SPF feature. The device
measures the UV dose taking these values into account (in the Advanced
mode only). If you don't want to tan, you should use a lower Skin Sensitivity
Value. Some medications and consumption of alcohol may change skin sensitivity
to UV.
